Comp 10 Clarksburg, Md
This was a fun Comp, We had good teams all around us, Nice setting I can see this one turning into a big one. So we did ok at this one there were only 20 teams. We had a good cook, meaning we though everything was good so it was up to the judges.
And the judges left us at   Chicken 7th, Ribs 13 (I do not understand) Pork 8th, Brisket 3rd.
We Finished 5th overall!!
This was the last cook Vince and I together this year. Woodstock I will be doing it alone. well kind of
:-)  Woodstock Va will be the last planned event this year. I have to ask is this a better form or is facebook//twitter
what would you all like to see

Comp 9 Richmond Va

I had a good cook this time out. Vince was ill and I had to do it alone. sooner or later this was going to happen and I had been setting up for it since I got addicted to this stuff :-). A special Thanks to Donnie Williams for running my boxes, and lending his thoughts on appearance and taste. at that point tenderness is there or not.
So I came in 17 in Chicken, 8 in Ribs, 6 in Pulled pork, and yes 1st place Brisket.
Leaving me 5th out of 26 teams. I think this is my best finish yet and It is also my first time getting a first place in a category. Chicken was a let down however the skin did pull off on the piece I tried but I was all out of supper glue :-)  I am looking forward to Comp 10 Shenandoah, I hope with my brother.
See you all there!!

Comp 7 BelAir Md

OK out of the shout with all new stuff.

I got a real surprise this comp. None other then Chris Roller stopped by to see me. Chris use to be my boss for a number of years, a truly great person and it was great to see him.

So all new stuff after cooking the night wondering what was going to come out of the smokers, It was time. taste across the board was BORING, not my normal pow. it was melancholy at best. We did not have a great feeling for winning anything. But let me set this straight The Chicken was over cooked the ribs were under cooked the pork was ok but no taste and the brisket may have been a little over cooked  just a smidgen.

we were 15th out of 58  38th in Chicken (overcooked) 22 in Ribs (undercooked) 2 in Pork
(YES) 15 in brisket. So 15th not to bad that is were I expect to be every time and to be fare the new stuff worked because yes I made errors but my numbers stayed the same so Richmond is next and I plan to keep the chicken, ribs and the pulled pork the same with a slight tweak to the sauce.
The brisket is going back the the original rub. so we will see how Richmond goes.

and for those that follow this Easton in Oct has been CANCELLED very very sad.

Comp 6 Bluemont Va BBQ Bash

Bluemount what a great place it was great views of the mountains. I had never seen Vineyard on the side of a hill like that before. We had great Company Bennie and Jackie, came by and brought there parents. Great people as I expected from meeting there Daughter. Jackie is a sweetie.  Well BBQ
I had a little set back, maybe not thinking about what I was doing as much as I should have been.
My brother had to leave early Sat. morning he was having a little issue with numbness in his left hand so off to have it checked out. that for some reason made me a little lets say absent minded.

so the overall was 26 out of 40 teams we placed 30th in Chicken, 21 in Ribs, 27 in pork and 15 in Brisket. our score have been level for the year only winning calls at the second comp this year, I need to do something different, so watch out Bel Air

Comp 5 Louisa, Que N Cruz

This is always a fun comp. lots of friends and many members of the family make it by to say hello.
It was great to see them all. This year we did big cook on Friday night for Vince's birthday.
We set up Friday and by 1o an we had 3 full Briskets and 8 pork butts in one  Fatboy. Kind of tells you why they call it a Fatboy. late Friday we started cooking the comp meat to finish the evening and sat of course we did the smaller meats and turn ins. dropped the trailer at Vince's so we could do chicken and ribs for his party on Sunday. It was his BDay.
At the comp we finished 31 overall  42 chicken  11 Ribs  18 pork  41 Brisket,
at the party same as last weekend for Roy and Nick I finished 1st lol.
Now getting ready for the next one in Bluemount I hope to see many of you there since it is close !!!

Staution Va Cancelled

The HD dealer said it was because of the major storm and the wide power outages.
Maybe next year.

Comp 4 Palmyra
We survived the storm Friday night. Storms I like cooking in We tend do OK in stormy weather.
This time we finished 16 of 28 overall
Chicken was 4th
Ribs 14th
Pulled pork 27
Brisket 17th
I do not understand why the pork did so bad but it is what it is. This was a first time event and they did a good job. I plan on doing this one next year.

Comp 3 Swinetastic, Md

It is proving to be a roller coster of a year.
This was Swinetastic, in Ferderick Md
We finished 49 out of 69, Not a good finish. I always want to be in the top ten.
Chicken 61 out of 69
Ribs 18 out of 69
Pork 59 out of 69
Brisket 51 out of 69
So why. simple I overcooked everything except the Ribs.
Chicken was a little dry and tuff,
Ribs I added something new I will retract it next time.
Pork pulled I did different this time made it seem tuff I will not be doing that again
Brisket well what I did to that brisket should be a sin, It had great taste but had to shred it. over cooked I could not slice it

So next weekend we do another comp. If the roller coster keeps going we got to go up
Until then.
There is always the next comp

Number 2 for the year 2012
Chesapeake Jubilee A much better Comp for us then the last.
We were surprised to see standing water. but we ended up with a lakefront spot :-)

Its all in how you look at it!!

We repeated the same cook as we did last month. and it seems to do good for us
We finished with 6th in Chicken, 5th in Ribs, 7th in pork and 6th overall.
Brisket did not place I was 18th
We always want to finish in the top 10. It is our every comp goal.
This was a fun and good cook with plenty of friends we like cooking with.
Thanks to Kelly, Dave, Alexis and Danise for sharing the afternoon and awards ceremony with me.
